Nottingham Irish Centre celebrates after receiving National Lottery funding.

The grant of over £256,000 will fund the Centre’s two Community Outreach Workers for four years and also allow us to employ an Office Manager. The Community Outreach Programme has been running since 2012 and supports some of the more vulnerable members of Nottingham’s Irish and local community, and we will now be able to expand the service and the number of clients we reach. The Outreach Programme runs in tandem with the Golden Shamrock Club, which runs a luncheon club and social event every Tuesday. In addition, the Outreach workers also run a Memory Café for those experiencing cognitive decline.

The Chair of Nottingham Irish Centre, Dr Patrick Murphy, said “The Irish Centre is grateful to the National Lottery as this grant will allow us to expand the Outreach Programme and plan for the future. The employment of an Office Manager will also allow the Irish Centre to become a more effective community enterprise dedicated to supporting the Irish and local community in Nottingham and the wider community beyond, in addition to allowing the outreach workers to concentrate on their role.”

Our Community Outreach Workers can be reached on 07861211115 or 07915037447 or by emailing info@nottinghamirishcentre.org

The Golden Shamrock Club’s weekly social is open to all every Tuesday 11am-3pm at the Irish Centre, Wilford St, Nottingham.

The National Lottery Community Fund recently launched its strategy, ‘It starts with community’, which will underpin its efforts to distribute at least £4 billion of National Lottery funding by 2030.

As part of this, the funder has four key missions, which are to support communities to come together, be environmentally sustainable, help children and young people thrive and enable people to live healthier lives.
